They even agree with the anti LGentimeBT snts of the Catholic priests who declaim their biases on their pulpits. The Catholic leaders indeed have an evident and obvious repulsion against LGBTs as shown by the Catholic authorities’ opposition Growing up as a religious Catholic, I saw a lot of gays and lesbians practice their faith by observing them how they continuously attend and support their church.to the legalization of Same Sex Marriage.
Christianity is being taught by the religious authorities as a religion that promotes love and care towards all people in the society …. except the LGBTs. The religion of Christianity came out from the religious doctrine called the bible. So what does the bible say about the LGBTs?
Leviticus 20:13
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination, they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
If you show that bible passage above to the Christians, they would tend to invent some excuses to defend their beliefs by claiming that the bible passage is part of the Old Testament and is no longer supported by Jesus. But here are some of the bible quotes that prove that Jesus still supported what the Old Testament bible god commanded.
Matthew 5:17-18
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Jesus even says further that he and the Old Testament bible god are one and the same.
John 10:30
I and the father are one.
Not only that, but there is a New Testament passage that is clearly against homosexuality. In this bible passage, homosexuality is even being compared to murder.
1 Timothy 1:9-11
We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.
Therefore it is very clear that the bible is against homosexuality. The anti-LGBT sentiments are even written in the book Homosexuality and the Church released by the Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), “Those who commit homosexual acts shall not enter the Kingdom of God”. That quote from the CBCP is a manifestation of pure discrimination against the LGBTs. Christianity therefore is not a good standard for morality in our modern society because of that.
So what is the effect of this stand of the CBCP to its religious flock? The effect is that the Catholic parishioners would tend to blindly support the position of the Catholic Church authorities. They tend to give up their moral compass because of the fear of being punished by a god whose evidence of existence is yet to be proven. But the irony here is not the heterosexual people supporting the anti LGBT point of view of Christianity, but the undiscerning compliance of the religious LGBTs to these irrational commandments of Christianity.
Why are there still LGBTs believing and advocating this very oppressive religion? Why are they allowing themselves to be influenced by this religion to deny their true nature? Why do they try to force themselves in a religion that hates their natural instinct? Now as an atheist, I find that behaviour of the religious LGBTs to be a mystery.
PATAS as an organization will do its best to alleviate the negative influence of any religion towards the LGBTs. So in commemorating the International Day against Homophobia (IDAHO) on May 17, we are reminding everyone that the struggle for human rights equality and fare treatment for the LGBTs is still ongoing. For as long as there are religious organizations that fuel the discrimination against the LGBTs, this endeavour will continue.
