The 2013 Metro Manila Pride March was a success last December 7 as a number of LGBT and heterosexual advocates marched around Manila in support of promoting Equal Rights. And for the third consecutive year, Patas has participated anew in this exciting event.
Two hours before the march began, a number of the march participants convened at the Remedios Circle at Malate Manila to register and socialize with fellow supporters of the advocacy. Tarpaulins with statements of advocacies were hanged in the area for everyone to see. Lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals, all dressed up in different colours and costumes filled the circle and that made the event even more exciting.
The march started rolling at 4 PM through Remedios Street passing along the historical Malate Church, a symbolic gesture of opposition to the religious doctrines that are against homosexuality. While the March Parade was ongoing, there were a few fundamental Christians preaching on the streets who oppose the march's advocacy. But the Pride March participants were never intimidated by these religious people, but instead the participants chanted louder to overpower the preachings of the religious.
The parade culminated at the Heaven’s bar, in the area known as the social scene of the LGBTs. There, each organization was given opportunity to provide a few speeches. Patas representatives spoke their advocacy to support marriage equality. PATAS heterosexual members Rath and Jarvis showed their support by kissing in front of everyone who participated in the march.
