lgbtBUS Old and New Years statement
Dear people of lgbtBUS,
welcome to 2016, a year of great and new opportunities. This online group has been steadily growing during 2015, and that's great. But my wish is still, as stated towards Coconuts Manila at the Pride March in Manila: "I would like to see more people in the parade rather than at the side of the street." LGBT's still face immense discrimination on the private and employment level, and also as couples who live together. It is for us to make that change. And it can be done, together. Many countries have proven to us that changes can be made, and in Asia, Taiwan is now, in the large cities, allowing a first step of partnership registration. Nepal will have marriage equality in their new constitution, and in Thailand people are on the street pushing for the latter. Maybe "marriage equality" is somehow a big step for many, and opposition will not agree to deal with it; that's why I would propose and start to fight for civil partnerships. This is a founded secular step. It keeps religions out, as the word marriage does not appear, and it builds a solid level of state recognition for loving couples, that form a household and life together.
lgbtBUS is dedicated to educate and stand for the ones many others don't reach; the poor and isolated communities. We want to touch the grass roots. We have managed to gain support from mayors and Barangay Captains, and this will show this year. But we need you, and for a special reason; and the reason is to be a model to the ones who think they are alone in their struggle, left behind or think they can survive by giving in. The LGBT community is more than the members itself, it is their families, their friends, colleagues and neighbours.
And finally, please approach us when wanting to help, bring in the spark of an idea, donate or ask for help. We are open for your queries.
I wish you all a healthy, prosperous and happy year 2016. Stand tall and proud always and make your life worthwhile.
